Tropical Space Camp Flocking - Skydive Spaceland Houston

  • Skydive Spaceland Houston 16111 FM 521 Road Rosharon, TX, 77583 United States (map)

Canopy flight and high performance flocks have become increasingly popular in recent years. Now we're adding the element of movement to these normally static jumps. This camp is designed to add the dynamic portion to canopy flight and push the limits of flying. Regardless of the canopy you fly this camp is focusing on building on the skill and experience you already have from flying.

Come Flock with us during the Tropical Space Camp hosted by Skydive Spaceland Houston for our third edition of being involved at the event

The highest-level movement flying skills camp of the summer is back for its 10th edition at Skydive Spaceland Houston.

Flyers will spend 3-4 days angle flying and 1 day canopy flocking. World class coaches for every group, every day.

Angle coaching lineup:
Kai Kai
Rafa Dunin
Alethia Austin
Jesse Jaber
TBA

Canopy flocking coaching lineup:
Matt Leonard
Pete Lubrano
Jake Carlton

Videographers:
Tex Leos
TBA

Camp format:
Example of the angle & canopy format:
Thursday & Friday you may be flying angles. Saturday you could rotate into a canopy flocking group. Then, on Sunday you would return to flying angles.

This is a concept event so some aspects may differ from a typical skill camp. For instance, you may fly with "Group 2" angles but be in "Group 6" canopy flocking. Therefore, flyers may rotate through different groups each day and should be open to flying with different flyers/groups throughout the week.

Angle Flying Format:
Participants will be grouped as best as possible by skill level.
Smaller groups this year. 5 + coach.
Videographer/photographer will rotate through groups.
Coaches will change groups each day.
We aim for 6 jumps a day and more if we can.
Primarily angle jumps but each coach can use their own style to design jumps that include vertical, movement and even flat flying.

Canopy Flocking Format:
Participants will be grouped as best as possible by experience level, wing size/type, WL'ing, etc..
5 + coach group size.
Canopy flocking experience not required to attend.
Coaching will include theory and dirt-diving tailored to the experience of the group.

Requirements:
- Must have angle experience and be able to safely approach, fly and breakoff in groups of 6 or more.
- (Angle) flyers must be able to fly their slot tightly at different speeds/pitch on their stronger side either back or belly.
- (Angle) flyers must be able to also fly in their quadrant safely at different speeds/pitch on their weaker side either back or belly.
- Basic static flying skills on the feet and head are required this year. The ability to approach, fly on level and break off from head up and/or head down.
- 500 jumps minimum. 200+ angles or a recommendation from a known movement coach.
- Canopy flocking experience not required to attend.
- AADs are mandatory.
* Overestimating your abilities in the questionnaire and/or flying unsafe during the camp is grounds for being red carded and removed without refund. Safety is the priority. *

** Participants are financially responsible for all of the jumps their groups do. This means if you do not show or sit out some jumps, you still must pay for your slot. The DZ gives us X amount of organizer slots to help keep registration costs down based on the assumption every participant will pay for every jump. You will be required to put enough jump ticket money on your account before the event begins. This will be strictly enforced this year. The camp must maintain the full group sizes each day and you agree to this when you register. **
